You Can't Take Them With You is an organ donor documentary that weaves the story of Melanie and Rosie Albright (who were on the organ donor waiting list at the time it was filmed) with those of others who have donated or received organs in the past, while presenting the voices of outraged professionals calling for public policy changes that would dramatically increase the number of organ donations, thereby cutting down on waiting times and the 7,500 lives that are lost each year due to the organ shortage.
"If we could change just one word and cut their waiting time down to zero, we wouldn't have to wait until they're dying to get it." - RD Albright
It's no secret that most people on the organ donation waiting list die before an organ comes available. But how many of us are aware that our own government policies actually discourage Americans from becoming donors?
You Can't Take Them With You will take you from the Pacific Coast to our nation's capitol, meeting surgeons, activists, ethicists, religious leaders, organ donors, organ recipients, and most importantly, policy makers who are raising their voices demanding speficic legislative change that will bring the catastrophic organ shortage to a halt.
Unlike any other organ donor documentary, You Can't Take Them With You delves into the mostly-hidden controversy that keeps our country from adopting policies that would save the lives of the 20 people who die each day while waiting for a life-saving organ.
